Our team here is committed to provide the best possible support before, during and after labour and we are delighted that we have recently added ten new midwives to support the increasing numbers of women choosing to have their babies with us. As well as having the only full range of neonatal services in Surrey we have developed a midwife-led birth unit, the Abbey Birth Centre.

Change of Clinic Time and Venue
As from the 10th June 2015 The Combined Diabetic/Medical Clinic which has previously be held on Wednesday afternoons in the Antenatal Clinic will be moving to Wednesday mornings and will be held in the Stephanie Marks Diabetes Centre (shown left) at St Peter’s Hospital
If you already have an afternoon appointment booked for this clinic after 10th June you will receive a letter rescheduling this for one of the new morning clinics.

Please note that if you are having an ultrasound scan before you are seen in the clinic, these will continue to be carried out in the ultrasound department in the Abbey Wing and you will then be redirected to the Stephanie Marks building to see the medical and midwifery team which is adjacent to the Abbey Wing.

Introducing the Abbey Birth Centre
We are delighted to announce that Ashford and St Peter’s fantastic new midwifery led birth unit – The Abbey Birth Centre (ABC), opened to our new mums-to-be on Monday (5th of May) on the International Day of the Midwife. This will be a unique NHS facility in the local area and offer an ideal ‘home from home’ setting for women seeking a natural and positive birth experience.
The centre will look and feel very different to a traditional labour ward, with care led by our friendly team of midwives who feel very passionately about promoting and supporting natural birth whenever possible.
Situated next to the existing maternity unit, Abbey Wing at St Peter’s Hospital, the Abbey Birth Centre has been purpose built to provide a homely and relaxing environment, where women who have normal and uncomplicated pregnancies and want to give birth in a less clinical setting. Maternity Services are based in Abbey Wing (shown above), located at the front of the St. Peter’s hospital site in Chertsey, Surrey.
Joan Booker Ward (Antenatal and Postnatal)
Visiting during the day is open, no more than 3 visitors at one time.
Children under 16 cannot visit unless they are the brother / sister of the new baby.
- Partner allowed anytime
- In labour - a maximum of two birthing partners.
- For all other visitors - visiting times are 2-4pm, 6-8pm. Only two visitors at a time during this period
- Children under the age of 16 are not able to visit unless they are siblings
